Leads and manages the organization toward achieving its visions for the destination and for the organization by accomplishing its mission and long-term goals. Works directly with the Board on policy-making, organization strategies, and community leadership. Elevates the profile of the tourism industry and the organization through participation in and leadership of a variety of local, state and national organizations.

Advises the President of the Board, the Board and such other committees/task forces as designated.

Attends meetings with required agenda/information distributed in advance of meetings allowing members to review.

Ensures minutes of meetings are taken and distributed.

Actively assists appointing authorities in identifying qualified and code-compliant candidates to fill board vacancies.
Administrative/HR – 25%

Directs team effort to develop an annual budget responsive to the annual Sales & Marketing Plan.

Oversees efforts that ensure that the tourism bureau adheres to approved budget and meets fiscal responsibilities.

Oversees the preparation of timely monthly financial and annual audit reports in accordance with procedures approved by the Board.

Ensures all tourism bureau activities are implemented within established organization policies and guidelines, appropriate laws and ethical standards.

Ensures policies and procedures are evaluated and updated and comply with local, state and federal law. Seek input from board members and ensure board adoption where appropriate.

Oversees recruiting, development, evaluation, management and compensation of all tourism bureau team members.

Manages administrative and operations team members in performing various administrative and HR functions.
Marketing & Sales – 15%

Provides team with strategic direction and goals as they develop an annual sales & marketing plan.

Requires periodic reporting from sales & marketing team ensuring progress toward goals and adherence with strategic direction.

Provides team with strategic direction regarding market research, data collection, performance metrics and analysis of all information that improves decision making and creates compelling stories of organizational effectiveness, accountability and transparency.
Product Development – 15%

Develops and implements process for annual evaluation and execution of Tourism Capital Development Fund (TCDF) applications.

Provides notice to partners of available TCDF funds;

Organizes and executes application process;

Coordinates with Budget Committee & Board for evaluation and award of TCDF Funds;

Oversees partner bond issue to fund selected projects;

Manages compliance and payments on bonds until retirement.

Meet with investors in new projects, existing partners considering expanstion and festival organizers seeking event development in our communities; establish partnerships and coordinate team support where possible.

Oversees appropriate research on visitor experience needs and gaps, feasibility and other such studies necessary to advance the destination’s appeal.
Community Engagement – 30%

Establishes and maintains on-going communications with all community and tourism industry constituents.

Strong visible presence in the community.

Implements external marketing and internal community relations plans with detailed key activities.

Establishes and maintains necessary political relationships.

Represents the tourism bureau through service on boards and committees of appropriate local, regional, state and national organizations balancing both tourism industry and broader community interests.

Performs such other additional duties as may be assigned by the President or Board of Managers.
Desired Skills and Experience

At least five years’ experience in an integrated marketing and sales environment.

At least two years’ experience in a direct supervisory role.

A 30,000 ft thinker and a magnifying-glass doer.
