  • 1.  Record Retention Policies

    I'm in the process of updating our record retention policy at Discover Kalamazoo. As we revise our policy, I'd love to hear from other DMOs who have recently updated theirs.

    • Have you made any significant changes to your policy recently?
    • How are you handling electronic record retention and disposal?
    • Are there any best practices or lessons learned that you'd recommend?

    If you have a policy in place or any insights to share, I'd appreciate your input! Thanks in advance for your help.

    Our new record retention policy is now complete. Thank you to everyone who shared resources, advice, and insights during this process!

    We ended up with a comprehensive policy that strikes a balance between structure and flexibility for future growth. It's a bit lengthy, but intentionally so; we wanted to ensure it addresses both current needs and anticipated changes, particularly in the areas of electronic records and digital file management.

    Our legal counsel reviewed the final draft and provided very supportive feedback, offering a few helpful suggestions that we incorporated.


    I've attached the final policy here in case it's helpful to anyone else currently going through this process. Grateful for this community!
